Mask Fit Testing
All medical students and medical staff are to be fit tested for a N95 mask prior to the start of their school program, clinical or lab start dates.
N95 Mask Fit Testing is based on the standards and procedures of the respiratory mask manufacturer (3M). They are also in conformity with the Canadian Standards Association and the National Institute of Safety and Health. N95 Mask Fit Testing program is designed for organizations that need to be in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act which states that every reasonable precaution must take to protect employees and students when the use of a respirator protection is required in the course of a work day.
Fit tests are valid for 2 years. Medical students who have exceeded these times lines will need to be re-tested.
NOTE: PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS NECESSARY FOR COMPLETION OF TESTING.-Do not consume anything by mouth (except water) 20 minutes prior to the FIT testing.
-This includes gum or candy.
- Do not smoke 15 minutes prior to the FIT test.
-Participant’s face and neck must be clean shaven and makeup-free.
- If you take any medications for asthma, please bring them to your appointment.
Be prepared to complete a medical review by the tester or bring in a medical evaluation- Recommendation form, signed and completed by a certified reviewer.
